September Books

Yeah, I know it’s now 4 days in to October but it takes me a while to get round to things OK?! ;) I have been wanting to document the books that I read on my blog for months but here I am now, just making a start. I quite often forget the plot to a book, and end up wanting to read it again.

The type of books I normally prefer are thriller types – Karin Slaughter, Lisa Gardner and the like. However, to broaden my horizons I decided to read other types of books as well (usually “modern classics”) and I’m so glad I did as I usually enjoy them very much.

So, in September I read:

Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen:

Really enjoyed this, however I didn’t see why it had to be quite so raunchy in bits lol.. but maybe I’m just a prude?! It is one of those books which has the ending at the start (if you know what I mean)… but after you have read the whole book the ending makes much more sense… I really want to see the film when it comes out. 4/5

The Dice Man by Luke Rhinehart:

OMG – this took me nearly 3 weeks to read. That says a lot. I do read quite slow, but not that slow! I nearly gave up on this book numerous times, but kept going. Basically, it is about a man who decides to live his life by the throw of a die, never mind the consequences. It is definitely more of a man’s book and I was pretty shocked by some of the things in it (bear in mind I thought Water for Elephants was bad!). 2/5

Shadow by Michael Morpurgo:

In contrast to The Dice Man I read this in 3 days. It is actually classed as a children’s book but Gary had wanted to read it for ages because it’s about a springer spaniel (!). It was a lovely wee story, and not all that childish at all. 4/5

When God was a Rabbit by Sarah Winman:

Wow – absolutely loved this book! I sometimes caught myself thinking about the characters and the story randomly during the day, and this is the sign that I really like a book. It did confuse me at times, but I am easily confused. I have since lent this book to Bec as I insisted she had to read it right away! 4.5/5

(I totally forgot to take my own pic of this book… Grrr!)

Book of the month = When God was a Rabbit!

Have you read any of these books? And I’m always looking for suggestions for more books to read! :) x

Ha how funny, you're starting your book reviews just at the point where I'm offiically abandonning mine! Mind you I think you'll find yours easier to do as you seem much more concise than I am.

I still inadvertantly judder when I hear anyone mention The Dice Man. I read it years ago and hated it with a passion. What a tool.

Really want to read When God Was A Rabbit – it seems to be everywhere at the moment!

Water for Elephants is such a brilliant book! I was however (as is always the case) disappointed with the film. It wasn't terrible or anything, just lacking in some of the details. xx

I will be starting When God was a Rabbit on the train home :)

You made me laugh because I read The Dice Man many years ago and thought it was bl**dy awful!!!! Not only that but I actually paid money for it, luckily I had managed to read it without creasing the spine at all so I took it back to Borders and got my money back :D

I might do a post like this although I'm not sure I can remember all the books I read last month!

Oooh I will have to get some recommendations from you – I love reading and I've always got a book on the go. Since I exhausted Phillipa Gregory's back catalogue I've been looking for new things to get my teeth into!
