Let’s just pretend that it is the start of Feb and not the 21st… OK?! Good. So here are my January reads:
Keeper of The Bride by Tess Gerritsen
Source – library. This is one of Tess’ stand alone books, more of a romantic thriller. It certainly wasn’t as deep and gritty as her usual books but I did enjoy it and it had a good few twists. 3/5
Whistleblower by Tess Gerritsen
Source – left in hotel on holiday by someone. Again, more of the same as above. Not her most recent work, but an OK read. 3/5
(Forgot to take my own pic – oops)
Headhunters by Jo Nesbo
Source – lent by Sarah. This was the first book I had read of Jo Nesbo’s. I had never heard of him to be honest until Sarah started talking about him. So, always keen to try new authors I borrowed this – and LOVED it. It is a stand-alone book, not part of his series of books. It was engaging right from the start, graphic, and very very clever! 4.5/5
(Forgot my own pic again, double oops!)
In The Woods by Tana French
Source – lent by Sarah. Again, I had never heard of this author. The story is set in Ireland and it is always nice to read some Irish dialect. It was a good read although the ending didn’t tie up some loose ends that I had been expecting. Can’t wait to read more of her books! 3.5/5
You’re The One That I Don’t Want by Alexandra Potter
Source – library. I went to the library wanting a Marian Keyes book to take on holiday. I don’t really like “chick-lit” type books but I make an exception for Marian Keyes. She is like my guilty pleasure. However, the library didn’t have any of her books in stock so I randomly looked for another “easy read” book. I had never heard of this author before but decided to risk it. I started the book on holiday then stopped after a couple of chapters as it was way too sugary and I wasn’t in the mood to read it at all. I wanted something deeper & darker! However, I started reading it again on the plane home & got rather engrossed in it. It is an easy read, with some of the usual chick-lit cliches but I also found it to be quite refreshing in that I didn’t guess the ending, and these books are usually quite predictable. Oh, and it made me want to live in New York (just for a while!). I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to read any more of her books though… 3/5
The Hare With Amber Eyes by Edmund de Waal
Source – library. Again, I took this on holiday but it sounded pretty boring and I couldn’t face reading it. I ended up reading it when I got home and boy I LOVED it! The story takes place in Paris, Vienna and Japan during the 1st and 2nd world wars (periods of history that I am interested in anyway), and it was great to learn more about the different countries. There is a lot of art references in this book and although I’ve never really been interested in art I found myself “Googling” all the paintings etc. that it mentioned and wanting to learn more about the artists! 4.5/5
Book of the month and therefore book of 2012 so far: The Hare With Amber Eyes
As always, I want your suggestions of what to read next!!

PS – HAPPY PANCAKE DAY – WHOOP
PPS – SORRY FOR BEING AWAY FOR SO LONG…

Ooo some interesting reads there! I love Tess Gerritsen but I've only really enjoyed her older books, her most recent ones haven't been as good. Anything with Rizzolli and Isles in them though, they have to be my favs!
Oooh some of these look very good, and I'm so glad I'm not the only one who reads so many books! I'd recommend the woman in black if you haven't read it yet.. the book is so much better than the film!
Glad you enjoyed Jo Nesbo!
Currently position 6 in a queue of 6 at the library for The Hare With Amber Eyes, it sounds really good from your review so looking forward to reading it!
I love booky posts as it gives me some ideas for reads – not that I need any, I have a list as long as I am to get through and it seems to grow daily! I've started doing a post like this too, I did one on 1st feb for my january read and am hoping to do one next week for this months reads but it's been a bad month for reading and I've yet to finish a single book (though I am half way through three different books!)
The hare with amber eyes sounds particularly interesting, I might put that on the list!
There are some good choices here! I love Tess Gerritsen.
I like the look of the Jo Nesbo book. I'm aware of the author, but have never read any of his books. I'll add this to my list of new reads
xx
Great post! I love to get recommendations, so thanks!
