Family Fortunes

Last Sunday night we got word that Gary's dad had had a heart attack, had stopped breathing for 12 minutes & was on a life support machine in hospital. Bam. Gary hadn't spoken to his dad for a variety of reasons for about 10 years but obviously it was still a shock. We headed up to Scotland to see him on the Monday after hearing he had had 3 more heart attacks within 12 hours. Double bam. He was very unstable for a few days, but Gary did see him improving a little before we had to head … [Read more...]

Pupcakes for Chester’s Birthday!

Chester, our Springer Spaniel doggy was 2 years oldĀ last week! I keep calling him "pup" but I guess he's not a pup anymore! After the success of his doggy birthday cake last year (see HERE) - which I entered in English Mum's BakeOff (HOW did I not win?! ;) ), I decided to make some pupcakes (aka doggy cupcakes) for him this year. I kind of made up the recipe but based it on the dog cake recipe - using ingredients that are healthy for dogs to eat. No point in giving him cream cheese … [Read more...]

Scones on Saturday – Avocado Scones

Yes, as it is Saturday I have been in the kitchen making scones again! I had a random idea for avocado scones and didn't even know if it would work. I love avocados and usually have them in green smoothies or make guacamole. After some Googling I made up a recipe using bits from recipes that I found (they were all American so all quantities are in cups). Here is how I made mine: You Will Need: 1 cup plain flour 1 cup wholemeal flour 3 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 2 … [Read more...]

Wholemeal Rhubarb Muffins

It must be rhubarb season? Well, Aldi had 400g packets of rhubarb for 69p! Gary has always said he doesn't like/hates rhubarb crumble so I bought some to try & change his mind... And it turns out he does rather like rhubarb crumble after all! Anyway, I was in Aldi again and noticed the rhubarb had been reduced to 29p per packet - bargain or what? So I bought a couple with the intention of trying out some new recipes. I didn't really fancy anything super fattening so I started browsing for … [Read more...]

April Books

If I don't write this post today I will forever forget what books I read in April, as my memory is already starting to fade! The Case of The Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall Source - recommended on Twitter. This had really good reviews but I was sooo disappointed. I pretty much hated it! :( I kept having to check that it wasn't translated into English as it is written in an Indian "colloquial style" language which I just couldn't get used to. Couldn't wait to finish it. 1.5/5 The … [Read more...]

Scones on Saturday!

Helllo! Haven't blogged for a while, haven't really had the inclination to do it tbh, but here I am now, so all is well. My perfect Saturday usually involves making scones. I used to make them every Saturday morning when I was little using my Granny's recipe. I have since forgotten this recipe (must ask my mum if she can find it at home). I even carried my Saturday morning scone making on at uni for a bit (which my flatmates loved!). Me & Scones, A Kind Of Love Story: My favourite type … [Read more...]
