May Books

I had a pretty rubbish month for books in May. Mainly because we took out the Blockbuster free 2 week trial, so were watching a DVD every night and I was too tired to read much when I went to bed! Anyway, here are May’s reads:

The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt

Source – recommended on Twitter. This was a book that had great reviews but I just didn’t think it was that great. It was an old fashioned sort of cowboy tale, set during the Gold Rush in California. Not awful, but not fab either… :( 2.5/5

My Best Friend’s Girl by Dorothy Koomson

Source – lent by Kim. Loved it right from the start! Thought it was going to be a predictable (if enjoyable) story but it surprised me! Am really enjoying this author! 4/5

Generation X by Douglas Coupland

Source – recommended by The Pampered Sparrow. Eek.. I really could not get into this book. AT all. Read about 50 pages then gave up and took it back to the library. So disappointed.. :( Anyone else read it? Is it just me? 1/5

Faithful Place by Tana French

Source – lent by Sarah. This is the 3rd book I have read from Tana French and it centres around one of the characters from the previous books. Not as good as the 1st 2 books, but still enjoyable. 3/5

Book of the month = My Best Friend’s Girl

Book of the year so far = The Hunger Games!

A pretty disappointing booky month overall. What have you read recently that you think I might enjoy?! :) x

  1. Yay glad you liked the Dorothy Koomson one! I bought Generation X about 10 years ago to read when I was trying to be cool and edgy (to impress a guy!!!), but I hated it!!

  2. Got a few here for you to read ;-) x

  3. Martha MiniNo Gravatar says:

Generation X – @cakebikecake’s favourite book of all time – seminal work. It goes to show, it takes all sorts! x
