Book Update

I have been really bad at updating my monthly book reads on here. I think I have missed 3 months…? Oh dear. Sometimes life just takes over and I can’t focus on anything. I have still been reading though (it’s one of the only things that have been keeping me sane!). I really should have made a list of all the books I read, but I’m not good at lists haha. I will list the ones I can remember here – they will either be very good or very bad – the mediocre ones will probably have escaped my memory! :)

Catching Fire – Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games Book 2)

This book annoyed me a bit at the beginning as it kept going over what happened in the 1st book. Anyway, I finally got into it and found it almost (but not quite) as exciting as the 1st book! 4/5

Mockingjay – Suzanne Collins (Hunger Games Book 3)

Oh, I hate to say this but I found this rather tedious and drawn out. I can’t even really remember the ending, which shows I mustn’t have cared too much about it. Quite disappointed. :( 3/5

The Calling of The Grave – Simon Beckett

Really enjoyed this. A brand new, fresh author with an exciting storyline. Kind of Patricia Cornwell-esque, but better! Might be my new favourite author!! 4/5

Chemistry of Death – Simon Beckett

This is actually Beckett’s 1st book in the series although it didn’t spoil it that I read it after the book above. I loved finding out more about the characters and again there was a really good storyline! 4/5

Welcome to Rosie Hopkins Sweet Shop of Dreams – Jenny Colgan

After loving “Meet Me At The Cupcake Cafe” so much I was excited to be lent this book by Sarah! I wasn’t immediately too keen on it but once I got into the story I was hooked. I loved the characters and I must have cried for about half an hour when I finished it. Plus I now want to move to the country and open a sweet shop! 4.5/5

Fifty Shades of Grey – E L James

Yes, I read it. Lent by Kim. To be honest it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. It took a hundred or so pages before anything raunchy was even mentioned. And I don’t think it is degrading to women, I don’t think it should be taken so seriously. Will I bother reading the other 2 books? Probably not… 3/5

Kind of Cruel – Sophie Hanna

This book was recommended by someone on Goodreads I think. My, what an awful book. I really did not enjoy it, and it is only because I am stubborn that I finished reading it. The story just did not grip me at all. :( What a let down. 1/5

November’s Reads will be posted soon… :)

  1. No point in telling you what good books I've read recently, cos I'm pretty sure they all came to me via you :) Aww, shame you weren't too keen on the Hunger Games and 50 Shades, but you're right that 50 Shades shouldn't be taken too seriously! Loved the Sweet Shop one too. I'm currently reading a Joanne Trollope book lent by Mike's Mum! Not sure what I think so far!

I've just finished reading "Before I go to Sleep" by S.J. Watson – loved it!

If you've not already read it you should :)
