I'm finding it hard to remember what books I have read recently - I certainly haven't read any that have really blown me away. The Wicked Girls by Alex Marwood Source - recommended on Goodreads. This was probably the best of the bunch (or maybe just cos I read it last it is fresh in my mind?). I did expect a lot more from this book going on the reviews I had read. Basically, 2 young girls were convicted of killing a younger girl. Fast forward 20 years or so and they are living separate … [Read more...]
My Favourite Author Of The Moment….
...is the fabulous Dorothy Koomson. Did anyone see "The Ice Cream Girls" - the 3 part series that was on ITV recently? Well, that was from Dorothy's book of the same name! The TV series was fab, but it just wasn't as good as the book (as is often the case)! The Ice Cream Girls was my first ever introduction to Koomson's writing - my good friend Kim lent me the book, after she rated it her favourite read of the year in 2011. I was a bit doubtful by the name & the pastel cover of the … [Read more...]

Casual Vacancy - JK Rowling I saw this book on a few "best reads of 2012" lists and reserved it at the library. I have never read any of the Harry Potter books by the same author (nor have I seen this films). I didn't even read the description of this book, I do that quite often - I just like to start reading and be surprised! I assumed by the title that this was a book about a hotel (vacancy!) but it isn't at all. The story centred around the goings on of a small village where everyone … [Read more...]
January Books
I got a little behind with my book posts last year but I am going to try to keep on top of it in 2013! January will be an easy month to review as I only read 2 books! It took me 3 weeks to read the first, then just under a week to read the second! The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton I saw a review of this on Amelie's House blog - it sounded different from anything I would normally read so I decided to give it a go. Plus I want to start reading more "classics". It was written in … [Read more...]
Book Update
I have been really bad at updating my monthly book reads on here. I think I have missed 3 months...? Oh dear. Sometimes life just takes over and I can't focus on anything. I have still been reading though (it's one of the only things that have been keeping me sane!). I really should have made a list of all the books I read, but I'm not good at lists haha. I will list the ones I can remember here - they will either be very good or very bad - the mediocre ones will probably have escaped my memory! … [Read more...]
June Books
I can't believe it is July already and we are still having rain nearly every day.... :( ! Anyway, I enjoyed some good books during June. Here they are: The Colour Purple by Alice Walker Source - Recommended as someone's favourite ever book on Twitter! This was a good wee read. I can't believe it was written so long ago - 1982. It told the story of a young black woman growing up in America in the 1930's and the poverty and abuse which she experiences. The book is written as a series of … [Read more...]
May Books
I had a pretty rubbish month for books in May. Mainly because we took out the Blockbuster free 2 week trial, so were watching a DVD every night and I was too tired to read much when I went to bed! Anyway, here are May's reads: The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt Source - recommended on Twitter. This was a book that had great reviews but I just didn't think it was that great. It was an old fashioned sort of cowboy tale, set during the Gold Rush in California. Not awful, but not fab … [Read more...]
April Books
If I don't write this post today I will forever forget what books I read in April, as my memory is already starting to fade! The Case of The Missing Servant by Tarquin Hall Source - recommended on Twitter. This had really good reviews but I was sooo disappointed. I pretty much hated it! :( I kept having to check that it wasn't translated into English as it is written in an Indian "colloquial style" language which I just couldn't get used to. Couldn't wait to finish it. 1.5/5 The … [Read more...]

The Likeness by Tana French Source - lent by Sarah. I flippin well loved this book! I read my 1st book by her in January and although I enjoyed it, I was a teensy bit disappointed with the ending. I was glad to see that this book had a nice tied-up ending. It features much of the same characters as the 1st book which was nice. I was going to give this 5 out of 5 but then I remembered one tiny thing which annoyed me, oh and the chapters are very long! - so 4.5/5 it is! The … [Read more...]

Afterwards by Rosamund Lupton Source - library. I read Sister by the same author last year and absolutely loved it, so I was excited to finally get hold of this at the library. I immediately didn't think it was as good as Sister and I didn't really like the way this book was written, it kept confusing me. However, I did get used to it and the book did get better. It was a predictable ending in one way but there was also a little mystery that had to be solved. The ending, although predictable … [Read more...]
